Address Registration (Meldunek) in Poland for Foreign Workers — A Practical Guide

Meldunek (zameldowanie) is the official registration of your place of residence in Poland. Many foreign workers are unaware of this step. This guide explains what it is, whether it is mandatory, and how to complete it.

What is meldunek?

  • Permanent registration (pobyt stały) — for those settling in Poland permanently
  • Temporary registration (pobyt tymczasowy) — for those living away from their permanent address for more than 3 months

As a non-EU temporary worker living in Poland, register at your actual place of residence.

Is registration mandatory?

Formally yes — Polish law requires registration within 30 days of arriving for a stay over 3 months. It is needed for: ZUS and tax office registration, getting a PESEL number, accessing NFZ health insurance, opening a bank account at some banks, applying for a residence card.

How to register?

  1. In person at your local municipality office (gmina) — bring your passport and rental contract.
  2. Online at gov.pl — if you have an active Profil Zaufany. Takes a few minutes.
  3. Via a proxy — with written authorisation.

Documents needed:

  • Passport or residence card
  • Rental contract or landlord's declaration
  • Registration form (at the office or downloadable)

Registration is free of charge.

Online registration via gov.pl

Log in with Profil Zaufany at gov.pl, find "zameldowanie na pobyt tymczasowy", fill the form and attach a scan of your rental contract.

After registration

You receive a certificate of registration, useful for: tax office registration, residence card applications, enrolling children in school, and accessing NFZ.

Deregistering when you move out

Deregister from your old address when you move — you can do this simultaneously with registering at the new address.
