Dentist in Poland — How to Find an NFZ Dentist and Book an Appointment

If you are legally employed in Poland and paying ZUS contributions, you are entitled to free dental care under the National Health Fund (NFZ). This right applies to all insured persons — regardless of nationality. Your citizenship does not matter; your insurance status does.

Who Is Entitled to Free Dental Care?

• Employees working under a contract of employment or civil contract (umowa zlecenia) with health insurance contributions deducted
• Registered unemployed persons
• Children under the age of 18
• Pregnant women

If your employer pays your health insurance contribution to ZUS, you are fully covered for dental treatment on NFZ.

How to Find an NFZ Dentist

1. Go to nfz.gov.pl → "Find a provider" → select "Stomatologia" (dentistry)
2. Enter your city or postcode
3. Filter by NFZ (tick "Umowa z NFZ")
4. Call the practice and ask for an appointment — say you want a visit na NFZ (on NFZ)

You can also use the mojeIKP app (Patient Internet Account), where you can find a list of practices with an NFZ contract after logging in.

What Is Covered for Free on NFZ?

• Check-up and consultation
• Fillings (amalgam and composite fillings on back teeth)
• Tooth extraction
• Root canal treatment (in limited scope)
• X-rays
• Dental sealants for children

Note: Dentures, implants, teeth whitening, and orthodontics are not covered by NFZ — these are paid privately.

Dental Emergency — What to Do

In urgent situations (severe pain, swelling, injury) you are entitled to emergency care without a referral. You can:

• Call any NFZ dental practice and ask for an emergency appointment
• Use the night and holiday dental service at a nearby hospital (dyżur stomatologiczny)
• In case of facial injury or breathing difficulties — call 112 or go to the emergency department (SOR)

Booking Your First Appointment

1. Call or visit in person any dental practice with an NFZ contract
2. Give your name and PESEL number (or passport if you do not yet have a PESEL)
3. State that you want an appointment na NFZ — you have this right as an insured person
4. For your first visit, bring a photo ID and a letter from your employer or a ZUS printout confirming your insurance
